Liminal Industries Selected for GroundBreaker 1 Phase II Demonstration
Company will demonstrate DUEL-V, its unmanned ground platform designed for deployment at scale.
September 28, 2026 — Liminal Industries announced today that it has been selected to advance to Phase II of GroundBreaker 1 following technical evaluation of its Phase I submission. The company will demonstrate DUEL-V at Camp Grafton, North Dakota, mid October 2026.
GroundBreaker 1 is a joint unmanned ground vehicle demonstration conducted under the Department of War (DoW) Drone Other Transaction Authority (OTA) Consortium. The consortium connects government with industry and academic partners to accelerate the prototyping and fielding of drone systems and related capabilities. Through live hardware demonstrations and direct engagement, government evaluators will assess DUEL-V’s maturity and applicability to operational requirements.
DUEL-V: Dynamic Unmanned Expendable Light Vehicle, is a compact, remotely operated ground platform developed around affordability, adaptability, and scale. Its four-wheel-drive, invertible architecture supports continued operation in either orientation, with a modular platform that accommodates different mission payloads.
“Scale has been a design requirement from the beginning,” said Bradley Balzer, Founder and CEO of Liminal Industries. “Cost, manufacturing, and operator usability determine whether a ground system can become a widely deployed capability. GroundBreaker gives us an opportunity to demonstrate that approach and put DUEL-V in front of the people who will shape its deployment at scale.”
Liminal’s development approach emphasizes field testing, operator feedback, and rapid hardware iteration. The company will bring multiple DUEL-V vehicles for the demonstration.
Phase II selection advances Liminal to the demonstration stage. Following successful evaluation, participating companies may be invited to submit a full proposal for a prototype Other Transaction Agreement award.
